S.O.S - 15,000 SOULS ESCAPE

298... 299... 300
HOLY HYPERVENTILATING

15,000 Minutes Of My Soul

I did not think that I would be at my job at ipsos long enough to have accumulated 300 sheets of the Breath Drawings. With an average of 50 doodles on a page, this amounts to 15,000 drawings!

TRUE TO FORM

S.O.S. sheet No.171

Two years have past since my previous Doodle Babel post. Have I been sitting idle you ask? I am still waiting. Like on a desert island, waiting for rescue. I have an unlimited supply of 8.5 x 11 inch paper and enough Blue Ball Point Bic Pens to sink the Titanic. I now have 171 of these sheets with an average of 50 drawings on each one, totaling about 8,550 drawings. That's a fun and perplexing notion.

S.O.S.

 ip-s.o.s.no.1

Last fall I started a job as an interviewer at a market research company. Between automated dialing to a new respondent there is lag time. This time between phone calls can be anywhere from a micro second to a few minutes. We are allowed to amuse ourselves during these moments by reading, doing crosswords or whatever. Some people do crafts and some draw and some are on their electro gadgets.

I have a hard time reading between these moments, so I've opted to doodle and this works very fine for me. These drawings are a continuation of my doodle forms, and as you can see there is a regular format that has developed nicely after the first few pages. I have here the first 8 pages plus my most recent page no.38. The formats for pages 9-37 remain all the same. I am still constantly amazed at how similar and yet entirely different each drawing is.

Most of my Breath drawings or doodles are really quite small in nature and are in the range of 1 - 3 inches in height. A few extend to the 4-5 inch range. They generally remain quite small because of the limited movement involved in this drawing style. This movement relates to the style of the drawings in that the only thing moving during the drawing process are my fingers and this gives me very circular and curved drawn lines. There is next to no wrist movement. When I move my wrist, I get a larger drawing. And when I move my elbow there is an even greater range of motion, giving me an even larger drawing, which in this case is unnecessary given the small notepad in which I have given myself to draw in. Also the larger wrist or elbow movement in the process of drawing will give me a different result in the final product that is if I have a larger drawing surface.  These results are generally not in the same style as these small drawings. But I am working on that.

This drawing below is a detail of one of hopefully many large scale doodles. You are seeing here about a third of the total drawing in process. This area measures about 7 x 9 inches of a yet undetermined finished size.  It is also upside down (I think).

String Of Thoughts

Some of my most recent doodles. Two on the phone  (the ones with names) and the rest are my morning coffee drawings. All the words are in the drawings. Like a vibraphone recording waves of speech of my inner dialogue. There is communication and interaction among the masses of undulating lines of graphite or ball point ink.
